This bespoke platinum engagement ring has a teal cushion cut sapphire taking centre stage and it’s in good company with four baguette diamonds. 🤩
This particular sapphire exhibits a degree of colour change - a gemological term where the colour of the stone changes depending on the light source. In this case it changes between blue and green.

The baguette diamond cut meanwhile, known for its elongated rectangular shape, gained prominence during the Art Deco period of the 1920s and 1930s and is named after the French word for “long rod” or “stick”

Bespoke. This client had precious stones from a ring that was of significant sentimental value to them. The stones were removed from the ring to produce this beautiful platinum half eternity with rubies and diamonds. Rubies are a variety of mineral from the corundum family of precious gemstones. This very special bespoke order comprised of the clients old 18ct and 9ct gold jewellery which when melted together produced 14ct gold. A good compromise - 14ct is harder than 18ct but has a better colour and lustre than 9ct. White gold bezel settings for the diamonds allow some contrast between the metals whilst a flat band gives these 3 stone rings a modern feel. The result is three beautiful new rings for a mother and her two daughters. These rings have also been Irish hallmarked. Hallmarking is the process of having jewellery stamped by an assay office. In this case Dublin assay office, who take a sample of the metal for analysis to determine the metal purity. Once confirmed, the metal is stamped to validate the authenticity of the metals quality. Bespoke - Being asked to design a contemporary claddagh ring is a bit like being asked to re-invent the wheel, however after breaking down the three elements of the claddagh (the heart, the hands and the crown) I was able to come up with three concepts, each vastly different from the others. The client chose this design. Handmade in rose gold with a diamond set into a platinum heart, this is a claddagh like no other. The claddagh ring originated in Claddagh, County Galway. Galway has produced claddagh rings since around 1700. Bespoke - A rosary ring made in silver with a Lapis Lazuli set into a gold bezel. Lapis has a particularly interesting history in art. It’s first known use was in the 6th century BCE when the stone would be ground down with a pestle and mortar to a fine powder to make a striking blue paint - sometimes called ultramarine. It became especially popular in Renaissance Europe often used to accent the robe of the Virgin Mary. At one point Lapis was more expensive than gold and could only be obtained by the most accomplished artists including Michelangelo. That expense gave their work an incredible prestige, especially as the material had to travel a long distance on the same routes as the spice trade. It already had an illustrious history as a stone, used on the sarcophagus of King Tutankhamen, on a headdress buried in the Sumerian tomb of Queen Puabi, and, legend goes, as eyeshadow by Cleopatra. #lapislazuli #rosaryring

By making the band thinner and deeper I was able to retain the high quality feel of the ring without reducing the weight. The name opal is believed to be derived from the Sanskrit word upala, which means 'jewel', and later the Greek derivative opállios. Opal was rare and very valuable in antiquity. In Europe, it was a gem prized by royalty. Until the opening of vast deposits in Australia in the 19th century the only known source was Červenica beyond the Roman frontier in Slovakia. Black diamonds are said to have a deep spiritual meaning and are often used as protection from evil. It is believed the beautiful dark gemstone provides a link between the spiritual and physical world.
Some believe the stone has metaphysical powers of protection and healing.

They achieve their colour when the diamond has large quantities of black mineral inclusions, such as graphite, pyrite, or hematite.

This remodel preserves the sentiment of the original 3 stone ring whilst realising a more modern vision.
